1.Du Bois believes that his “sorrow songs” are of great significance to the history and culture of African Americans, but because they represent the aspirations and beliefs of African Americans in the slave society at that time. Each song has a different meaning, but they tell us that African Americans aspire to move forward in a more real world. Although the slaves’ minds and their relationships were clouded by fear, they still held on to the hope of a better life, held together, fumbled for some kind of strength, and longed for the ultimate justice.

2.In this chapter, I think “My Way Is Cloudy” and “Michael Row The Boat Ashore ” are the most meaningful songs. For they represent, respectively, the rebirth of the hope for freedom and the rebirth of the triumph of the African American people through their unceasing struggle. These represent different turning points in the history of African Americans.

According to the Damon Krukowski says that “the marginal-the rejected-the repressed-is whatever the powerful have decided is of no use at the moment.” It means something that is not recognized by the public. First, he narrates the difference between the strong and the marginalized through the release of Music by Michael Jackson and Sting. Although two people have different because of the type, the way they publish is the same, people can listen to them at the same time. But in fact this social recommendation is not enough for music. Then they developed an acoustic technique to make the music sound more distinctive. They use cultural recommendations to get people to understand music in terms of what they think of music. The music is polished to great effect. He then goes on to illustrate how developers can reach out to the masses without being marginalized by describing the marketing strategies of Google, Facebook, Amazon, and apple. In addition, we are all trying not to be “the marginal” by society. But while we are adapting to the development of society, we also need to consider whether we have lost ourselves. I think those who are often ignored by us are the most real self.

I strongly agree with Damon Krukowski that digital sounds block our perception of sound quality that these sounds can help us experience intimacy. His descriptions of children singing, the Beatles’ music, and the examples of Roland and Gary Tomlinson fully illustrate the intimate relationship between sound and the balance of digital sound. As he said at the beginning, “But I worry about the quality of that share because we don’t seem to be listening to each other very well in the world right now.” While digital tools allow us to connect directly with people beyond the text, digital technology has sacrificed our voice. People are faced with less and less emotional air communication. Even though FaceTime sees everything about the other person, it doesn’t feel real emotion because of the lack of sound. What we’re losing is the perception of sound and the most precious thing.

The New York Times article “How A.S.M.R. Became a Sensation” by describing how people use digital tools to transmit sounds that we ignore in our daily lives, such as chewing. The popularity of A.S.M.R. has also been widely accepted. He makes sounds closer to us and more interesting. I think the most important thing about sound is to restore the sound to its original form. We live in a busy city. All kinds of sounds surround us. Many voices were drowned out by them. I love A.S.M.R. so much that sometimes I even listen to him sleep. He made me feel what the voice was like. Let me deeply understand the voice is a gift to people.

Noise is closely related to our lives. We are disturbed by the noise every day. As Schaffer says, “Noises are the sounds we have learned to ignore.” We live in such a prosperous metropolis, to avoid the noise affecting us, ignoring the noise is more from our judgment of the noise. In many cases, we have to accept them. I live in an apartment near the city center. The apartment is on the side of the road, and the road is a major transportation hub. Every day I hear people talking to each other as they come and go. The sirens of ambulances, police cars, fire engines, and the roar of cars going back and forth. Even the noise of the children next door. I am a quiet person, so these sounds are all noise to me. At first, I wear earplugs. Earplugs give me a personal space and allow me to focus on more things. But over time I found that even though I wore earplugs every day to avoid noise, there was no reduction in the noise. As a result, I began to learn to see and ignore them from different perspectives. I choose to ignore the noise, and maybe sometimes I consider the noise as a part of my life. Because I realized that these sounds are the symbol of this bustling, bustling city, which is the so-called life.

Martin A. Berger is certainly right about race because he delves into its effects on blacks and even nonwhites. He wants to influence people to eliminate racial discrimination by clarifying another side of history. Although the issue of race has been hidden until now, we can use different ways of thinking like Berger and influence the consciousness of modern people by analyzing the positive side of history, to eliminate the concept of race and realize the real racial fairness.

In” Ways of Seeing”, Berger reports that advertising can make us richer in some ways by encouraging everyone in consumer society to buy more to change themselves and their lives. Even if the money we spend makes us poor, advertising persuades us to change. It creates glamour by showing people who have significantly changed and generating consumer envy. Also, glamour is a new concept for people in today’s life. It is for those who cannot accept that they are unattractive. Therefore, the charm has a certain commercial value, which is very important for advertising. Berger also explains the difference between what oil painting shows and what advertising photography shows. There are many commonalities between the two, but one is pure art and the other is commerce. At the same time, more commercial advertisements imitate oil paintings to create an ideal atmosphere for consumers, to achieve greater commercial value. It also reveals that society is changing constantly. People are no longer pursuing pure art, but more pursuing their charm and more wealth. Nevertheless, in “The Dream a Far Away Place”, advertisers use different situations to create a different atmosphere for consumers. This atmosphere is often the life that consumers aspire to achieve. And advertising precisely manipulates consumers to obtain the maximum commercial value by promising them a beautiful blueprint.

I’ve believed that today’s women representatives objectify them in a similar as the women depicted in the Renaissance paintings Berger argues about. He considers nudity an art form. To be naked is to be seen by others without knowing you. However, In European nude paintings, this is not considered art. The video mentions the development and changes of nude art in different periods. For example, in the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve did not see each other’s naked bodies until they had eaten the fruit, so the naked bodies were created in the observer’s mind. Then there is the striking fact that women have been subservient to men, seeing them as agents of god. It wasn’t until medieval art that nudity began to become secularized. The mirror became a symbol of female vanity. Also, the video mentions another mythological theme in the Bible, in which men judge beauty and not beauty by looking at a woman’s naked body. Moreover, in Europe 10 oil paintings, most of the nudity is intended to please the male audience owner. Even today, the way women dress plays the role they want to play. Self-image is more based on how other people perceive you. Even the image of women in the media is still determined by the gaze of men. However, in today’s female images, the role of sex seems to have undergone some subtle changes. They no longer think of men as narcissistic and think of men and women as narcissistic, but they feel differently. A woman’s jealousy is how she feels about herself, not just what other people think of her. We could even say it’s a product of human interaction, a product that builds a sense of self-worth. They just want to see the image they want and may even be ready to become liberators and find their true selves.

In conclusion, although nude art has evolved in different ways over time, there are similarities between the way women are depicted today and the way women were depicted during the Renaissance. Women also have a new understanding and perspective on themselves.

1. According to Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein, writers should use the model of  “entering the conversation” in the writing. They talked a lot about the advantages of the model. First, after mastering the model, we don’t need to pay too much consciousness to think. it can help us to construct our own writing immediately and also shows some simple but crucial steps for writing. Then the model can be made public to help us state our ideas, to help us avoid answering yes or no challenging questions, and to present more arguments. In addition, the model can be used to enrich the sentence level in our writing and can be extended to any length we need. It can also help us make many challenging actions, help us open the text, and let us have more ideas and arguments to add to the writing. Furthermore, we can also summarize it by converting back and forth between texts based on our requirements. Finally, the model can help us make our writing more original and creative. Once we get used to the model, we will be able to improvise to adapt to new situations and purposes and can help us find other models in our reading.

2. I agree with the idea that learning to look at artwork can help us analyze other situations. I think every coin has two sides, It’s not as simple as it appears. Learning to look at artwork can increase our insight and allow us to discover more details from different perspectives. Moreover, learning to look at artwork can also exercise our critical thinking ability. It enables us to observe and analyze the situation from multiple aspects, understand the feelings the author wants to truly express by combining the background of artwork and more elements, and distinguish the right and wrong of things. It even extends to our lives and our writing. In addition, good insight and critical thinking allow us to quickly identify the author’s purpose in writing and reading the article and what the author wants to reveal. Through a detailed analysis, we can get more information and inspiration, and can quickly write a good article with rich structure and hierarchy. At the same time, good insight can also help us find more problems when reviewing our own articles so that we can correct our mistakes.

Hello!

Hello, everyone!
